My
name is Emma Read and I am a freelance Watercolour
Artist based in the Home Counties. I have been painting
with Watercolours for the past fifteen years, and
it has always been a very enjoyable hobby for me.
A year ago while painting with my eldest Daughter,
she turned to me and asked me to paint some fairies
for her bedroom, which of course I did, then with
a sudden sense of Eureka! I thought this is what I
have to do. So nearly a year on here is Titania’s
Fairies.

So why the name? First of all I have loved Fairies,
Pixies and Angels all my life, as a young child I
found them amusing, lovable and fun. Today, I still
find them all of those things but I am fascinated
of their joyfulness and that they are in fact nature-loving
creatures. Secondly, my Mother’s family were blessed
with the surname ‘Fairy’, so fairies have been such
a big part of my life. Even more so, when my grandparents
named their house Oberon (after Shakespeare’s Character
– The King of the Fairies, in A Midsummer Night Dream).
My Mother then decided to name hers, Titania, (The
Queen). Luckily no other members of my family chose
to name their house, Snug, Snout, Quince or Bottom!!

Shakespeare made fairies and elves a popular subject
in literature, bringing us the famous fairy folk,
in a Midsummer Nights Dream. Through his interpretations
he brought a humorous side to the life and loves of
these little sprites.
Throughout
the following centuries fairies became a vehicle for
Artists and Poets, where upon they wrote and painted
lyrical stories and prose. In which brought us into
a delightful, exciting and enchanting world of the
fairy folk
I
feel that my paintings and designs reflect my personality,
sense of humour and fun and I hope that you enjoy
